GENERAL VOLUNTEER POSITIONS - THROUGHOUT THE YEAR
Room Parents: This is a great way to get involved and be a big part of your child's classroom experiences. A room parent’s main task is to facilitate communication between other parents and the teacher, the PTO, and occasionally school administration. For the most part, as a room parent you’ll solicit donations (paper goods, snacks, decorations, etc.) from parents for classroom parties and events (usually based on a list from the teacher), collect money for teacher gifts during holidays and Teacher Appreciation Week in May, organize volunteers for the classroom for events or enrichment, and other tasks as decided by the teacher. Gardens Chair & Volunteers: Help keep our campus looking its best! This fun group meets on a Saturday or Sunday in late fall and early spring to rake leaves, spread mulch, and plant. Library Volunteers: Assist Ms. Cremin as a volunteer in the library during your child’s library time! Check-in and check-out books, shelve books, and help children locate books. Literacy Volunteers: Consider reading to/with a student once a week for 30 minutes during the school day – schedule is designed around our volunteers’ availability. Children of all ages need extra help with reading and comprehension and this is a wonderful way to share your love of books with a child! Please contact Lauren Leary if you are interested in volunteering.
Cafeteria/Zero Waste Volunteers: Zero Waste Chairs: Carina Schusterman, Claire Stocker and Selen Aktar. Volunteers assist with food rescue and recycling and wipe down tables after each grade completes lunch. Duties include setup of drain and drop stations and food rescue bins, supervising and educating the students in zero-waste. Welcome Back Pizza Night (Sept. 8, 2016): We need parents to assist during the back to school pizza night. There will be (3) shifts to choose from with 6-7 parents during each shift:
Spooky Fun Fair Volunteers (Saturday, October 22, 2016): Co-chairs Kelly Barry, or Beth DeLeo This long-time favorite & successful fundraiser and school spirit event. Many volunteers are needed to help with setup/decorating, break-down, games, café - we hope you can join us again next year to make this event another success!
Assistant Read-Along Coordinator (Monday, November 14, 2016): We are looking for 2 co-chairs to assist Pam Bedard with the coordination of the Annual Community Read-Along. This event is traditionally held during the National Education Week in November. You will organize community leaders (politicians, firefighters, business owners and many more) to come to Sanborn and read to the children in their classrooms. This event is sponsored by the League of Women Voters. It's a great way to get to know League members and Community Leaders from the town of Andover. Volunteers will:

Harvest Festival Volunteers (November): There are a variety of opportunities to assist Co-Chairs, Anita Johnson and Susan McCready, to oversee packing of gift bags and the delivery of gift bags to Andover seniors; and assist with the hospitality event hosted for the special guest of the Harvest Festival Program. Jr. Achievement Volunteers (February/March): Chair – Yong Chen. Volunteering to teach JA to your child’s class (4-5 weeks, 1x/week, 45 minute lesson). Volunteers are needed for all grade levels. Book Fair Volunteers (March 13-17, 2017): Assist Chair,Beth DeLeo, with Scholastic Book Fair for one week with set-up, break-down, re-stocking, sales, and helping children with purchases. If interested in volunteering please send an email to email@example.com
Game Night Volunteers (March 14, 2017): Assist the Activities Chair (Open) with the planning and hosting of a Bingo night during Book Fair week.
International Night Volunteers (April 5, 2017): Join us this year for our 5th annual event designed to celebrate all the different cultures represented at our fabulous school! Yard Sale (May – TBD): The Sanborn Yard Sale is back this year and we need a lot of support to make it a success. The last yard sale raised more than $3,500 for the PTO!!! Charis are Amy Smith & Tracey Waszkelewicz. Keep it on your radar and save all your great stuff to donate to the Sanborn Yard Sale!
Teacher/Staff Appreciation Luncheon Volunteers (May 4, 2017): Assist Chair (Open) in the planning and hosting of this event. Opportunities include decorating staff room, supervising children during lunch and/or recess, and cleanup. Lots of fun and very rewarding chance to thank our wonderful teachers & staff for all they do for our kids all year!
Art Show Volunteers (June – Date TBD): Assist Ms. McCann and Karen Carriuolo with the planning, setup, and break-down of the Art Show. This event is held the same evening as the Ice Cream Social.
Ice Cream Social Committee (June – Date TBD): Assist Family Activities Chair (Open) with the organizing and hosting of this evening in early June including setup, assisting teachers in serving ice cream, and cleanup of playground and serving area.
Children’s Stage Adventure Parent Coordinator (June 5-10, 2017): Chair (Open) Work with Beth Kennedy and the Children’s Stage Adventure staff to coordinate parent assistance to monitor practice, make-up and back-stage help during the show.
